Hey guys, happy TGIF!
So I just tried a USB sound card, and either it's got some unknown
installation steps I've missed or sound on the Pi is just crap (lol)
because Orca still doesn't speak and sounds are still garbles or staticky.
I know it's not the broken ALSA driver mentioned in previous posts, because
that was from a previous version of Raspbian or something, but I'm at a
loss for how to troubleshoot this. After having the Pi for several months,
I'm still struggling with sound problems, to the point where I stopped
using it for a while.
But then I had an idea, and I could be way off-base on this, but I wonder
if maybe it's related to resource usage. Raspbian comes with a pile of
extra stuff like office software, developer tools, and probably a lot of
background processes I don't know about (no Task Manager lol). But what if
I went with something that was command-line only, or something with a
smaller footprint? Maybe that would free up enough resources for the sound
components to do their job?
Either way, I'd be interested to hear of anyone else who has dealt with
sound not working correctly and if/how you fixed it. I'm sure there's some
stupidly simple but ridiculously obscure detail hiding in plain sight (no
cheesy pun intended, lol). Either way, thanks and have an amazing weekend!
