Yes, it generally is easier as you don't have all the exclude zones and file
systems-crossing concerns. You just concentrate on making a proper bootable
image (usually in a loop device) and copy the files over and run any boot
loader update code if required for the platform. I'm very uninformed about
Pi's boot process but that's the process in overview. Every time I peek at
the Pi's setup, I am reminded of SysLinux boot.

So I made an ISO of my RPI that is running on my PI4, on a 16GB card.
It is only 48% used, so I should be able to shrink it to fit on an 8GB card.
This is the Vanilla-SDR image that has SDR software installed, which I
finally got talking, so if folks want to use it and perhaps make it better
they can.
So I've been overwhelmed with the complexity of shrinking the root
partition, and I still don't feel like I'm understanding all the steps, but
I'm wondering if it is easier done on another Linux machine.
I mean what if I made an 8GB partition on my 32 GB SD card, and copied
everything from the root FS from my image to it.
Should I use fdisk to shrink the root of my RPI image first?
I downloaded win32 disk imager to try it from windows, but for some reason
that isn't working out, like I'm not understanding that program.
If I get steps to do this, I'll remove my password and WIFI password so
folks can log in and edit WPA supplicant to match their router.
But at least now I have the ISO of my working one, so if I screw this up, I
can get back my working RPI image.
