It is a lot of steps but you could make a script out of it and only have to
run the script. That is what we did back with the BP18. I never typed
everything out that was always a mess.

It seemed like a lot of steps, so I was looking for an easier way.
I did make an 8GB partition on another drive, and did the following:
dd if=/dev/sdc2 of=/dev/sdb2 bs=64K
and it worked except that the 8GB partition wasn't quite big enough, it ran
out of space.
Maybe it got all the files, I'm not sure if the error was from copying empty
space from the 16GB partition.
I may try to remove some packages from the image that I installed to make it
smaller.
But I may take you up on having you shrink it for me.

If you can copy your image to something like dropbox or google drive, I
will be happy to download, shrink, and upload it back for you.
I would even be willing to download it, and go through the shrink process
with you on zoom or something and teach you how to do it.

I have tried it with the disk utility too, using the GUI.
Same mount error.
I have tried it with /dev/sdc2 mounted and unmounted.
After changing the mount status, I do
mount -a to update fstab.
I've tried it after changing mount status without the mount -a command.
This is the reason I have a love hate relationship with Linux.
