Not sure if this has been discussed on the TN-Bird list previously (and I apologize if it has), but since I just saw the report of a mockingbird with a deformed beak, I thought I would pass on these links regarding beak deformities in birds. It seems to be occurring mainly in the NW US and Canada, but it would be worthwhile to keep our eyes open for similar situations elsewhere. Included is a form to fill out if you have seen a bird with a deformed beak. http://projectfeederwatch.wordpress.com/2010/12/29/beak-deformities-spread-in-the-pacific-northwest/ http://alaska.usgs.gov/science/biology/landbirds/beak_deformity/ Than Boves Knoxville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
