The Eagles are flying high over the lake this year. There were at least 24 in the trees on the lake and around the Upper Blue Basin on Sunday morning and every morning. Dining is probably much better and easier in the low water conditions we are still experiencing from lack of rain and there is no back water off the river. The Eagles are sitting low on stumps of the Cypress Trees and in the Cypress Trees. Every morning when I feed the dogs I experience activity. Common just to see one swoop down and pick up a fish. This morning an Eagle was flying through the trees just off the deck and it has its breakfast and I think was going to light in one of my trees and Jay Jay barked when she saw it, it was that close in the trees flying. It's great to hear them. One was calling consistently while I was refilling the feeders on the deck this morning. So according to the Eaglemeter the fishing is good at Reelfoot Lake. The Pelicans have arrived early this year. There were several hundred on the South End near Samburg yesterday along with a goodly amount of Eagles. Gull population seems to be increasing some. Just a plug for the Eagle Festival that is being held this weekend at Reelfoot Lake. Should be the best year for everyone to get great looks at, and photos of the Eagles. Jon Stokes who is widely known and did work at the Memphis Zoo and Dollywood and who now has his own Educational and entertaining program is our Saturday evening program at 7 and will be flying his birds, etc. and it is a great show. Ellington hall at the visitor center will be filled with vendors. Maps available at The visitor center to help locate the best places to look, right now it's the lake, and where the easiest nest to view are located. The weather is looking good for the weekend.
