Hi folks,

Sorry for the late post, but I've been up to no goo, er, I mean busy
lately.

Yesterday morning, about 7:30 I saw 10 birds flying southeast while I
was driving through Townsend in Blount County. At first I wondered
if they were early cranes, but a bit closer look (no other cars on
the road that early - whew) allowed me to ID them as Great Egrets. I
have seen perhaps 3 total Great Egrets in Blount County in 3 years,
and none were in Townsend, I don't think. I don't think I've seen 10
at a time in east Tennessee. Of course, with them flying, perhaps I
mis-identified a bunch of Great White Herons? ;-)

We have super Hummer wars going on at Tremont (Blount County, within
Great Smoky MOuntains NP). There are 2 feeders at the dining hall,
and at any given time we have 8-10 vying for position. I haven't
seen an adult male in nearly a month.

This morning I was surprised to hear a Hooded Warbler singing. It's
been a number of weeks. In fact it took me a couple seconds to
realize what it was. How quickly we forget. Especially those of us
who have heard more Chestnut-collared Sparrows that Hooded Warblers
this summer. Oops, was that bragging? Sure was!
See some of you at Rankin tomorrow.

Charlie
