Agreed. This is not something John has said much about although Sandy has been more than interested. The 748 number probably puts John in second position at the end of December but it has been a great race. The Aplomado Falcon is on the ABA list (code 3), but was reintroduced in the 1990's and is not on the Texas list. Information about the bird and John Vanderpoel's reason for counting it are on his blog at: www.bigyear2011.com. Note that John is now at 740 having just seen a Rufous-capped Warbler--just five birds short of Sandy Komito's Big year record. It will be an interesting finish!
