[TN-Bird] Mites strike again

Yesterday I noticed our resident Phoebe (he and his mate nest on my front
porch every year) popping out from under the back deck on our house a couple
of times. Knowing he had a nest on the front side of the house, I went to
see if he was still working that nest and had another going with a second
female. I knew the nest on the front side of the house should not be
finished. I looked up and saw beaks dangling over the edge of the nest and
tapped on the wall getting no response from the chicks and upon closer
examination, I saw they were dead and covered with tiny insects. I assume
these are mites, but I haven't collected any to look at under a microscope
(they were that small). I probably should have brought some to my lab at
school to look at. Anyway, this is two years in a row and I am wondering if
I can do anything to get rid of the mites so that the birds will be
successful. Anyone else experience this with a nest for Phoebes?
