The House Finches are missing, but we still have several Purple Finches, male
and female. There are usually more Purples than this at this time of year.

  J.N. and TNBird,

I haven't seen or heard any Purple Finches yet this season either, though my
observations are pretty much limited to my backyard feeders.

But on the topic - I've been noticing a conspicuous decrease (= near-absence)
in House Finches (along with a conspicuous increase in House Sparrows) around
my feeders compared to this time last year.

Has anyone else been missing House Finches at their feeders lately?

  Best birding,

  Stefan

  Greetings,
We have not heard anyone say anything about Purple Finches this fall and
early winter. We have had none so far and they have been here every year in
the last ten years, but always before this time. Is anyone having them? Would
be glad to hear. There would seem to have been plenty of cold to push them
down here, but maybe they have a bumper crop of seeds up north this year.
Maybe someone knows.
