Living in the sticks in Coffee County now has opened the door for a lot more backyard birds. This morning at a little after 11:00, four Purple Finches showed up at my feeders for the first time. I'm looking at one of the males right now. Not sure if this would be considered early, but I think it's a good sign that a bunch may show up and hang around here all winter. Hope so, anyway. Also, there's a flicker out there right now, and WB Nuthatches back and forth to the feeders. Bluebirds come around at times. All this action is against the backdrop of autumn leaves. It's a huge turnaround from the old backyard in Murfreesboro. For middle TN, I don't know if it gets much better than this. Best, Chad SmithManchester, TN
