August 20-21, 2005 Mississippi River Memphis to KY Checking the river over the weekend, I found a large number of terns and a few gulls were moving. At Memphis on Saturday, a single Black Tern and a Ring-billed Gull were seen in with the Least Terns. The next stop, Saturday, was Morris Overlook in Lauderdale Co, here there were just a few Least along with 7 Black and a single Caspian. On Sunday, at the I-155 Bridge in Dyer Co, I had 14 Caspian Terns flying and calling as they traveled south. In this bend there were 21 Black terns and somewhat over 40 Least. In Lake Co, at upper Island 13 there were 9 Caspian, 13 Least, 1 Forster's and 1 Ring-billed Gull. On the Lower Tiptonville Bar there were 3 Caspian, 12 Black and 11 Least while on the upper bar there were 3 Caspian, 43 Black, 3 Forster's, 75 plus Least and 3 adult Ring-billed Gulls. On the River just west of Lake 9 in KY, I had 3 Caspian, 7 Least, 9 Black and 3 Forster's. Good Birding!!! Jeff R. Wilson OL'COOT / TLBA Bartlett, TN
