I spent a little over 3 hours at Yuchi Refuge in Rhea County this morning and identified 36 species of birds. I had a few other sightings that I couldn't identify. Some of the highlights were: 3 great egrets, a green heron, about half a dozen orchard orioles, a summer tanager, 2 red-tailed hawks, at least 3 common yellowthroat warblers, 1 yellow-breasted chat seen and several others heard, a red-headed woodpecker, a blue grosbeak, several yellow-billed cuckoos heard, at least 3 ruby-throated hummingbirds, an osprey, and a belted kingfisher. I also saw an adult bald eagle as I crossed the Tennessee River on the Highway 60 Tri-County Memorial Bridge. Charles Murray Birchwood, TN
