An American White Pelican circled above Hog Island, then flew north over
the hawkwatch today at College Creek, in James City County, where Bill
Williams, Tom Armour and I were recording. One has been reported recently at
Hog. Ring-billed Gulls and both crow species were on the move, in the very
warm air (60 F), as well and 56 birds were recorded at the hawkwatch,
including our first Sharp-shinned, Osprey and American Kestrel this
season...also
16 Black Vultures, 35 Turkey Vultures, a Bald Eagle and a Red-tailed
Hawk....7 species is excellent for this early date. They are all headed right
into
a severe winter storm arriving tonight.
Also, we finally recorded a Red-necked Grebe.
