Hola Birders,
This afternoon I came across a Miarchus flycatcher on island four of the
Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. I believe that the bird, although not
vocalizing, was a good candidate for Ash-Throated Flycatcher. The yellow belly
color, gray breast and bill size seemed consistent with other individuals of
the above mentioned species. I was struck by the color in the wing, so vivid
in this dull and dreary day.
Island three was much less exciting but interesting. A Lesser-black Backed
Gull in transition to a third winter plumage was present along with several
other interesting looking Gulls. There was a Common Grackle too.
In the channel between these two islands 50 Bonaparte's Gulls were having a
blast with something.
Good day and good birding,
-Sam Stuart
