A total of 27 persons participated in today's monthly walk at Banshee Reeks
Nature Preserve, which is sponsored by the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy on the
second Saturday of every month and free to all. Because of the size of the
group, we split into two groups led by Joe Coleman and myself. Both groups saw
large numbers of White-throated Sparrows, Eastern Bluebirds, American Robins,
Cedar Waxwings, Yellow-rumped Warblers and Palm Warblers, virtually all of
which were the later-migrating eastern yellow form, as well as both kinglets
and an American Kestrel, among other raptors. Warbler activity was low but the
two groups did see six species. During a quick stop at the nearby Dulles
Wetlands prior to the walk, Mary Ann Good saw several Gadwall and Swamp
Sparrows, which increased the total number of species encountered by the group
during the morning to 56.
