Hello all
Today I birded around the Augusta County area with very little luck in finding
any odd bird species . The only note worthy birds seen today were Two Cackling
Geese on Bells Lane & 1 Herring Gull in Lyndhurst .Other Birds thru out Augusta
County are as follows .
Gadwall -- 33
Green - winged Teal -- 27 one of these birds at Smith's had the characteristics
of the Common Teal ?? The lighting was not that great & I do not know if this
bird was a young male or a male that was still in a molt . It lacked the white
stripe down the side of the bird . Any thoughts out there .
Pintail -- 2
Am. Wigeon -- 3
On another subject . Saturday I had to work & on one of my jobs pick ups to a
local Assisited Living place . My travels were down on Rt. 262 North ( the old
Rt. 275 ) . I noticed one of the 4 Barn Owls had been hit & killed . That night
I had a call from one of our bird club members that he had stopped & picked up
the Owl . It is currently in his freezer . My question to the list is any body
out there interested in an specimen of a Barn Owl . The Owl looked in good
shape for being hit . The member gave me permission to put his phone number out
so that someone can contact him if they are interested . His name is Milton
Driver & he can be reached at 540 - 363 - 5445 .
