I briefly visited the Portsmouth campus of Tidewater Community College, near
the south end of the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge-Tunnel, this afternoon.  The
campus is at the north end of College Drive. I estimated a lot of the numbers
(tried to estimate low). There was a slight fog over the water, but there
appeared to be a large gathering of gulls (>300) on the river. Species list
below:

Common Loon  5

Red-throated Loon 1

Double-crested Cormorant >30

Brown Pelican >15

Bufflehead   >15

Surf Scoter  >20

Ruddy Duck >40

Laughing Gull >15

Great Black-backed Gull >5

Herring Gull >30

Ring-billed Gull >20

Downy Woodpecker 1

Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1

Dark-eyed Junco 1
