Almost certainly a Red-headed Woodpecker. They are related to the Acorn
Woodpecker, and also show caching behavior.
The ones around here also cache sunflower seeds taken from my feeder in
crevices in bark.

Subject: [Va-bird] Woodpecker question
I have noticed a very large pine tree on my property with a large number of
oles on the north side of the tree. The holes seem to be filled with
omething. Most are old and I can't tell what the objects in the holes are, but
ome are recent and those holes seem to be plugged with acorn meat. It is
eminiscent of the Acorn Woodpecker I grew up with in Oregon, but they insert
he entire acorn, shell and all. These holes seem to just have meats. I assume
woodpecker or nuthatch. Does anyone know what is doing this?
Thanks,
