I have noticed a very large pine tree on my property with a large number of
holes on the north side of the tree. The holes seem to be filled with
something. Most are old and I can't tell what the objects in the holes are,
but some are recent and those holes seem to be plugged with acorn meat. It is
reminiscent of the Acorn Woodpecker I grew up with in Oregon, but they insert
the entire acorn, shell and all. These holes seem to just have meats. I
assume a woodpecker or nuthatch. Does anyone know what is doing this?
