Hello birders,
I tried for a modest big day on Thanksgiving, counting species seen between
Norfolk and Sandston, and then those seen from my in-laws' backyard in
Sandston.
Total species 29.
Species seen en route:
Great Black-backed Gull
Brown Pelican
Turkey Vulture
European Starling
Crow sp.
Northern Mockingbird
American Robin
Canada Goose
Seen in or from my in-laws' backyard:
Bald Eagle (beautiful adult, flew right overhead and low altitude)
Hawk sp. (likely a red-tailed)
Mourning Dove
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Yellow-breasted Sapsucker (1 beautiful adult male, the light catching its
red throat patch)
Downy Woodpecker
Nuthatch sp. (likely a White-breasted)
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
Blue Jay
Eastern Bluebird
Northern Cardinal
Cedar Waxwing
Yellow-rumped Warbler
White-throated Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
American Goldfinch
House Finch
Common Grackle
Brown-headed Cowbird
House Sparrow
[American Robin and Turkey Vulture also seen from the backyard-they really
have a nice area to bird! Note this is the same backyard from which I saw a
White-eyed Vireo back in early January 2008].
Good birding!
