I saw at least 22 Great Blue Herons at Burke Lake
today. One group of 8 was hanging out
near the main trail, presumably until dogs spooked them. They are NOT yet up
in the 14+ nests on
“Heron Island.” A fellow birder said she saw a Bald Eagle grab a fish. I
photographed the herons, along with
breeding and non-breeding (or juvenile) Red-necked Grebes, Lesser Scaups (I
think) & other birds. Pix are
