The reports of woodcocks reminded me of a question I've had regarding behavior.
We were hiking in the highlands and came across a woodcock on the ground during
the day. It was bowing and fanning its tail feathers up over its back, which
displayed an amazing orange pattern. So what the heck was it doing? Or was it
not a woodcock? It looked just like the one in the bird book.
