This morning about 9am while chatting with a potential contractor on the
phone, I noticed a bird come to the birdbath which I at first took to be a
House Finch. Handling the phone with one hand and my binoculars with the
other, I saw that it was in fact a Dickcissel. I got some some unsatisfactory
pictures. The bird stayed around feeding in the honeysuckle tangle on the oak
tree and did come to the ground once more. At this point it might still be
around but I'm not certain.
Earlier in the morning I had a nice flight of Common Loons and
Double-crested Cormorants over the house and I heard Tundra Swans but never saw
the flock. The sparrows that I had hoped for have yet to appear.
