7 birders were present for a warm and humid Sunday morning bird walk at Dyke Marsh on the Potomac. One of those was Larry Cartwright, who was finishing up some breeding bird survey work. Bird activity was very subdued and I was surprised when compiling the list that we ended up with 43 species (I thought it was lower). Bird song was almost nil. Notable misses were Baltimore Orioles, Yellow Warblers, and the only Orchard Oriole we encountered was a weakly singing one. No Vireos of any kind, either, although Larry thought he might have heard a Warbling Vireo, but not certain. Most of the Osprey have fledged the nest, but not all. No Bald Eagles were sighted. Thanks to Larry for lending his assistance and expertise.

The Sunday morning walk is a weekly event at 8:00 a.m., meeting in the picnic area. These walks are sponsored by the Friends of Dyke Marsh.
