Stopped by the stone bridge near PortoVecchio on my way to Trader Joes
after the Dyke Marsh Walk... Lowest of low tide @ 1p and able to add a
few sp's to the morning list.
Killdeer - 2
peep sp. - 6 (far away, too much glare and shimmer to ID)
Eagle #'s increased as I spied 2 adults and 4 immature (various
plumes) and alas, Caspian Tern #'s decreased (by 1 as I saw something
new. One of the adult eagles flew off and returned w. a CATERN in it's
talons. The tern was looking the worse for wear, but still alive. The
eagle deposited the tern on the mudflats and watched over it for a
while. The tern spread it's wings in (defensive posture, I assume) but
a short time later, the eagle was on it and feathers were flying -
Life goes on -
