Just had a note from a listserve member who was shocked that I posted perch locations of BAEA pairs and that is exactly how I would have reacted before we had a nest tree cut down. The landowner who admitted he cut the tree claimed he didn't know the nest was there. (The Federal investigator told me they have a plea bargain in this case.) The good news- the eagles rebuilt a short distance away and had at least one fledgling last spring.
Anyway the object of locating nests is to notify landowners and help DGIF/Center for Conservation Biology monitor them.
It puts one in quite a dilemma- what is the best way to protect the birds? The DGIF and Center for Conservation Biology post them here: http://www.ccb-wm.org/virginiaeagles/locator.php
