It seemed like âFight Nightâ at Dyke Marsh on 6/10 as tree swallows and
rough-winged swallows had a bit of a tussle. A âPeacenikâ Purple Martin
seemed to save the day as he swooped in. Â Also at Dyke Marsh: a papa
red-bellied woodpecker feeding ripe mulberries to his baby, a juvenile eagle
growing weary of his branch, some orchard orioles, a prothonotary, a yellow
warbler, ospreys, and more. Everyone was still in the mulberry tree pool,
including common grackles, a chickadee, cardinals, a robin, orchard orioles,
and a Weight Watchers-bound squirrel.
At Huntley Meadows, the bounty included 2 red-winged blackbirds dining on
dragon flies, 3 red-headed woodpeckers, 2 young mergansers lounging by the
turtles, at least two prothonotaries, & their cousins, amidst the irresistibly
fragrant pink swamp roses. Private pix (temporarily) here:Â
