While walking around the neighborhood Tuesday evening, I heard a Catbird
call, but was unable to get a look at him. Thursday, I both heard and saw
him in the same location. This evening 2 flew thru my back yard.
While working in the yard this afternoon, I flushed 2 Louisiana
Waterthrushes from the stream that runs just beyond my property.
Later this evening I heard several Robins screaming bloody murder a couple
houses over in the edge of the woods. They were soon joined by a Cardinal
and a Carolina Wren. Then the Catbird meowed, and I heard the distinctive
"whip, whip, whip" of the Wood Thrush. After about 5 minutes of ruckus the
local Barred Owl flushed and glided down the streambed within about 20 feet
of where I was standing. Soon thereafter the Wood Thrush started singing
his lovely song.
The male Ruby-throat that's been around for a couple weeks has been joined
by a female, and occasionally a second male tries to sneak in for a drink,
but is quickly chased away.
