Oh, I almost forgot. Just before I left the park I noticed something white on
the ground in the high grass. I thought it was part of something plastic but
when I bent down I saw that it was a large egg. The egg was white w/ brown
markings and larger than a chicken egg - 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inches long. I
couldn't understand why a lone, unattended egg was here. I couldn't come up w/
a species - Can. Goose? But no water nearby. A closer look revealed a crude
nest of grass was around it. After doing some quick research it appears that
it was a Wild Turkey nest. Canada Goose eggs are unmarked anyway. I hope to
find more eggs there if I can visit in the near future.

Hi,
At Elklick Woodlands Natural Area Preserve in Centreville on Monday, migrants
were scarce. I even missed some common resident birds. I suspect the mostly
light rain kept things rather quiet. I did hear a calling SUMMER TANAGER. I
searched but couldn't find this close by bird. A pair of COMMON RAVENS flew
east over the east-west right-of-way. A lone WILD TURKEY walked in this
right-of-way as well.
The only definite migrants were two singing Blackpoll Warblers.
