It has been 1-2 Fox Sparrows confirmed most days in the last week, but the snow
bringing the birds in a little more effectively today allowed three to be
confirmed at one time. And as Larry Cartwright had on Monday, mine produced
some beautiful song late in the day after the snow had finished up and the sky
lightened a bit.
And like Peggy Lyons less than half an hour east of town, I had a FOS Brown
Thrasher, which stopped in at the suet briefly once, then down to the ground to
join the sparrows for a minute before disappearing off towards the bamboo
thicket down in the drainage ravine.
A pair of cowbirds were the only other visitors out of the ordinary today (no
wait, a gang of seven skittish male grackles are here now) , with one male
robin hanging out quite a bit on the ground in the seed area, where spots of
bare ground from shoveling a little for the birds provided some foraging area.
