A fellow FHS teacher and his son (Jeff and Luke Sealy) escorted me around their
favorite neighborhood park this AM. This park looks amazing with a great mix
of habitat. We had a great walk with the most exciting birds being 4 red-headed
woodpeckers, a bald eagle, fox sparrow, towhee, and flyover pine siskin and
purple finches (calling). We also had nice scope views of kingfisher,
red-shouldered hawks and pileated woodpecker. A very raucous large group of
grackles was drinking and bathing along Bull Run and chattering away in the oak
forest.
See the list below.This park has not been visited much by eBirders, but it has
great potential with wildflower meadows, various Bull Run watery habitats,
various types of woods, and soccer fields. The Sealys often see wood ducks
here too but we could not find any today.
