The Northern Virginia Bird Club visited Occoquan Bay NWR this morning. We
tallied 73 species. Highlights were 2 alder flycatchers (one near the
parking lot, the other near Painted Turtle Pond), a willow flycatcher (at
the culvert), 3 bobolinks in the big field to the right of the entrance
kiosk, eastern meadowlark, black and white warbler, blackpoll warbler (many
about), magnolia warbler, and northern waterthrush. We had great looks at
many of the resident breeders, including blue grosbeak, prairie warbler,
orchard oriole, yellow warbler, and indigo bunting.
