Subject: Chincoteague White Ibis & Lark Sparrow
Hi Ned and Adam,
Today's highlights at Chincoteague NWR were an immature White Ibis in the
southwest corner of Swan Cove Pool and a beautiful Lark Sparrow along the Marsh
Trail, about 150 yards south of the observation deck.
Water levels seemed to be dropping a bit at the southeast corner of Swan Cove
Pool, and the "Western" Willet flock there numbered about 130 individuals
today, along with 5 Marbled Godwits and 8 juvenile Red Knots. Plenty of water
in Snow Goose Pool gave ample habitat for several hundred dabbling ducks,
including 120 Northern Shovelers, 150 Blue-winged Teal, 100+ Green-winged Teal,
and 40 Northern Pintails. We were also impressed with 18 Pied-billed Grebes in
the pool; we found an additional 4 PBG's on the refuge, bringing the total to
22 birds.
Please feel free to forward to the Virginia List, if you feel appropriate.
Thanks,
Scott Barnes
