Skeleton crew at Dyke Marsh, Alexandria, today due to closure of GW Parkway for a race. The five of us that made it to the first platform on Haul Road were rewarded by a quick glimpse of an AMERICAN BITTERN as it flew over the south marsh and put down - probably in the Big Gut.

The tide was almost low when we started so we were treated to a nice assortment of waterfowl, listed below. Egrets and GBH's must have corralled some nice morsels as they were standing pretty much side by side in a small pool for quite some time.

Three WINTER WRENS were seen not too far from the beginning of the trail and one put on a nice show, chipping, singing and popping about in the open affording good looks.

There might be an update on gulls and peeps from the splinter group that went to the stone bridge after the "official" walk ended. I had to go in the opposite direction.... Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend.
