Following is the count from Sunday's weekly Great Falls National Park bird walk
which was instead held upstream at Riverbend Park as a consequence of the
federal government shutdown on 01/20/2018. The walk included 9 participants
who identified 32 species on Riverbend Park property. Due to the recent warm
temperatures, the river was no longer iced over so several species of ducks
were observed. Other sightings included two Bald Eagles, one Cormorant, and a
particularly nice look at a surprisingly cooperative Winter Wren.
The walk normally meets at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings, rain or shine, in
front of the snack bar/concession stand of the Great Falls Park visitors'
center; it does not take place, though, during electrical storms, heavy snows,
or when the trails are icy. All birders are welcome!
