On this beautiful morning our intrepid group tallied 38 species. There was
almost nothing in the water -- 1 common merganser and 3 geese. We were lucky
to have a floover of two mallards. Elsewhere it was quite birdy with multiple
flocks of sparrows and kinglets. Starting on the path from the parking lot we
can across a flock of flickers.Near the second overlook were a very large
flock of bluebirds and a small flock of waxwings were feeding on berries. At
the edge of the picnic area were the first flock of sparrows and a small flock
of mourning doves. There was another flock in the woods of sparrows and along
the holding basin a flock of kinglets on the remaining wild flowers. At the
lock there was another flock of sparrows. We were delighted with the FOS brown
creepers for this walk. The day ended with winter wrens and a bald eagle.
This walk meets at 8:00am near the visitors center courtyard although sometimes
we are delayed by birds in the parking lot. All are welcome -- Marshall Rawson,
