Chuck Kroll from Roanoke whom I would say spotted half if not more then
half of hawks counted today. Thanks for your help & please come back.
Karolyn Stober & a freind, David Simmons drove from Chicago yesterday just
to watch hawks. Sorry there were not more, maybe tomorrow will be better.
Thanks to all that helped with looking & spotting today.
Weather:
Cloudy, cold & winds out of the nw all watch
Raptor Observations:
Not a lot moving today & surprisingly not a single, not even the local SS
or CH.
Highlighting the day were 7 PG,
2 BE, Adult @ 10:29 & an Imm @ 12:05
And lastly & the first since 2007 & only the 7th confirmed, & a first for
me at Harvey's, a Mississippi Kite. Barry Kinzie spotted the MK over the
valley on the west side of watch. The MK circled & then flew over the watch
heading South. It was spotted at apprx. 12:15 bird time.
Non-raptor Observations:
18 Great Egrets
20 Double Crested Cormorants
2 Canada Geese
A partial albino doe near the 105 mile marker on the parkway. another
first for me on the stretch of parkway from 460 to the watch.
Barry had some Jumbalaya that was rather tasty.
Alan had hot water & a variety of teas, hot chocolate & not sure what else
he was offering & fixing for some of the ones on hand.
Last but not least, "Jewel's Delight", this is the most awsome tasting
treat that just makes my taste buds melt. Some kind of cinnamon, suger,
cream cheese & doughy bread combination that is to die for. It is called
this because Jewel makes it & it seemed not to have an official name so I
suggested Jewel's Delight and all partook agreed. she brought me the
recipe. ( the guys at the firehouse are going to love this treat) Thank you
Jewels & Randy for bringing it up today.
Predictions:
More sun cause we hade none, warmer temps & less layers.
