Official Counter: Bill James
Observers: Baron & Tina Gibson, Darryl Martin, David Kirk, Katie James
Visitors:
Matt is getting to be a regular and had to do calisthenics to stay warm
this morning. Good showing from Martinsville again with Darryl and Mitch.
Bill and Linda were here after a day at Rockfish and helped with spotting
and ID'ing.
Weather:
Winds were light mostly with bursts of 2's occasionally and came initially
from the West and Northwest, but changed to Easterly late, although upper
clouds continued from the West. Temps 12 to 19 C, visibility improving in
small increments throughout the watch period as the cloud cover decreased
gradually from 100 to 5%.
Raptor Observations:
Broadwings were high mostly on the East side and primarily appeared in the
9 to 11:00 period (778). A few accipiters and Ospreys, but no Eagles and
only one falcon. Looks like the end of BW high numbers.
Non-raptor Observations:
Helicopter on the ridge to the East (saddle) carrying what we first thought
was a log, but later was shiny. I'll try to get the photo on the site.
Not nearly the kind of Dragonfly count that Rockfish had. Several
Monarchs.
Predictions:
This day was predicted to be cloudless and, if it had been, we would not
have seen what we saw. The same is predicted for tomorrow, hopefully with
the same reliability.
