Visitors:
The parkway was busy, but not a lot of trail hikers. Many folks stopped to
say "hi" and ask questions. Lots of help from Gretch and Bob, Mike and
Kelly, Jim and Kathy, the Thrashers, Hope and Larry, Judy and her husband,
and Tom and Cheryl. Regulars - Phillip, Dillard, the Newcomb family, and
Allen were incredibly helpful, as always. Barry stopped by briefly then
continued his birding tour of the Parkway overlooks.
Weather:
Started with patchy low ceiling. Later the low ceiling covered most of the
watch. Slowly lifted throughout the day till we had mostly sunny skies.
Light haze remained. Temp started at 62F and climbed to 80F. Wind was from
the East, but shifted late to the North. Light at 1-5 MPH. Visibility
increased from 2-5.
Raptor Observations:
Birds started on the East, then were seen to the West and over the Knob.
First bird was an Osprey at 9:30a. The 4P hour was our most productive.
First NH of the season was seen today. ABE at 3:03P low and right over the
knob.
Non-raptor Observations:
Yellow-billed cuckoos are still around. Lots of blue jays today.
Predictions:
We are edging ever closer to our bigger days.
