I birded Hog Island WMA in Surry Co. today. The highlight was a banded PIPING
PLOVER found on a sandy beach on the west side of the peninsula at the north
end, which is exposed on low tide. I was able to walk back there to get a few
photos and record the band colors and number. I will submit the information I
have to the bird banding lab and see if anything comes back. Shorebird numbers
have increased over this past week and there were 12 other species including a
STILT SANDPIPER. Other noteworthy birds included the continuing RUDDY DUCKS,
both NIGHT-HERONS and 8 GLOSSY IBIS. I pasted a link to my ebird list below,
including a few photos, in case anyone is interested. Good birding.
