Long story short, 4 teams will scour the park for birds on Tuesday. You can
pledge a flat sum or by the number of species we find. If you make a
donation because of this post on VA-Birds, please note "VA-birds" on the
memo line of the check.
Second, my regular partner in crime for the bushwacking route off of the
Hike/Bike Trail has bailed on me at the last moment. I could use one or two
volunteers to accompany me. We will meet before dawn on the platform (note,
this means getting up wicked early), watch the light come up over the marsh
while listening for owls and rails, then cover the area west of the Trail
between the water control structure and the Woodcock Meadow. Then it off
trail to cover the northwestern part of the park. You do night need to be a
crack birder, although it doesn't hurt. You do need to be ready for
mosquitoes and mud. We will bird most of the morning, then meet with the
other teams for a tally rally at Denny's. I can't guarantee great birds,
