It was another frigid morning at Huntley today. Twenty-one birders participated
and amassed 40 species. The central wetland remained solidly frozen so the only
waterfowl sighted were geese flying overhead. Many members of the group were
entranced by a winter wren that provided a spectacular, close-up view. A
red-shouldered hawk was in full view across from the beaver bench. Once again
the woodpeckers were very active and all seven species were spotted.
