Nineteen birders arrived at the Huntley Meadows parking this beautiful morning
to take part in the Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk. They spotted 60
species, with many first-of-Season and unusual sightings. The Warbler count
was high with Blue-winged, Parula, Chestnut-sided and many Common yellowthroat
and Yellow-rumped species being seen. Among the woodpeckers was a Red-bellied
seen with nesting material. The Hooded Merganser family stood at 8 chicks when
we first saw them, but fell to 7 by the end of the walk. The American Bittern
didn't fail us again this morning as we spotted it flying from one part of the
tall grass to another, and the Sora was heard again. No sign, however, of the
Virginia Rails.
