The Monday Morning Birdwalkers at Huntley Meadows tallied 44 species on a cold,
bright, calm morning. FOS Brown Creepers were sighted, as well as a
Red-breasted Nuthatch. In addition to the Creepers, other winter migrants
included Dark-eyed Juncos, White-throated Sparrows and a Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker. The real highlight this morning, however, was the foliage. As a
life-long resident of the Deep North, I believe that my sense of knowing when
the "peak" fall colors have arrived is deeply ingrained, and today was that
day at Huntley Meadows! If for no other reason, take a walk at Huntley in the
next couple of days for a spectacular blast of peak fall colors. Good birding,
too.
