The Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk welcomed Susan from Wales on this
morning's walk. She was able to add many lifebirds to her list. There were 12
birders in addition to Susan this morning, and we tallied 42 species. King
Rail activity was up today with sightings of at least two juveniles and much
calling among birds in the central wetlands. Additionally, huge groups of
Blackbirds and American Crows, Red Headed Woodpeckers, one American Coot, and
our first Northern Shovlers highlighted the morning. One birder reported
watching a Red Headed Woodpecker inserting an acorn in a cavity of one of the
tall snags downstream from the central wetland. Preparing for winter.
