There was the usual large Monday Holiday crowd at this morning's Huntley
Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk. The group of 22 counted 44 species on this
warm, humid, partly cloudy morning. It was a fairly quiet morning suggesting
the summer doldrums are setting in. Our highlights today included a fly-over
of a dozen Great Blue Herons in a sort of loose formation; a long sought Wood
Thrush and nearly as scarce Oven Bird near the Visitor Center; and an aerial
duel between a Belted Kingfisher and a Re-winged Blackbird. We think the
blackbird won.
