Today's Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk was fairly quiet as one might
expect for mid-summer. There were 17 of us, and we tallied 43 species. Of
particular interest was an Osprey taking a shorebird observed by several of the
group. The pond in the central wetland is nearly completely dry, giving the
Osprey little choice. Of all the references available to me, only iBird Pro
mentions that Osprey may take non-fish prey in very rare instances. The
species of the shorebird was undetermined, but thought probably to be a
Solitary Sandpiper.

The Monday Morning Birdwalk has been a weekly event at Huntley Meadows since
1985. It takes place every week, rain or shine, at 7AM (8AM from November
through March), is free of charge, requires no reservation, and is open to all.
Birders meet in the parking lot at the Park's entrance at 3701 Lockheed Blvd,
Alexandria, VA. Questions should be directed to Park staff during normal
