Over 25 birders converged yesterday morning for the Huntley Meadows Monday
Morning Birdwalk. With all those eyes at work, we were able to tally 50
species. This report is a day late due to unavoidable distractions to my world
until this afternoon. There were many highlights. Possibly the most exciting
was a flock of 25 Tundra Swans flying over and gradually disappearing into the
lowlying clouds. Other highlights included a Fox Sparrow and a Hermit Thrush
both standing on the same log, thus allowing for a valuable comparison of both
birds. There were samples of just about every duck species found at Huntley,
and the season's first Tree Swallows to round out the morning. Birders who
might come on the Walk soon are reminded that the 8 O:Clock start time will
continue through March. Beginning on April 1, the Walk will begin at 7 O:Clock.
