This morning's Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk was somewhat depleted
today, both in birds and birders. There were 14 birders who spotted 27 birds.
A Cooper's Hawk with unsuccessful designs on a Green Heron, and a Northern
Waterthrush seen along the small rivulet at the beginning of the boardwalk,
were the bird highlights. But a non avian event stole the show. A role cloud
"Rolled"over about 8:15, presenting a Hollywood style end-of-the-world
apocalypse effect. As the cloud moved over us going roughly northeast to
southwest, the temperature dropped noticeably, but it brought no rain. As it
rolled out of sight, the whole thing was rated as "very cool" by all present.
