It
was Sparrow day at the Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk, as 22 birders
tallied 38 species. Sparrows listed are Savannah, Song,
Lincoln, Swamp, and White-crowned. Additional highlights include
Red-headed Woodpeckers again, large groups of Palm and Common
Yellowthroat Warblers. A juvenal Northern Harrier seen cruising over the
grass areas near the central wetland giving the usual thrill these raptors
almost
always provide. Migrating warblers were not present other than the Palm
and Yellowthroats mentioned. A huge
flock of Red-winged Blackbirds settled in the woods just inside the tree line,
and a pair of Belted Kingfishers hunted in the very limited waterways.
